The challenge
The client changed its plans often and needed a partner that kept pace
In Japan, the client moves fast and changes often in response to market needs. The rides and delivery divisions each have their own requirements. The client needed a partner that could move quickly, scale up and deliver with precision.
Key challenges
- Supporting multiple business units with different requirements at the same time
- Frequent site strategy changes, including openings, closures and consolidations
- Compressed timelines, often requiring installation and handover within days
- Coordination across local teams, APAC stakeholders and US-based IT leadership
Our role
Support followed the client from headquarters to field sites
One bilingual team worked as an extension of the client team
On each project, mtc acted as an extension of the in-house team at the client. That meant bilingual project management to align global standards with local vendors and contractors, rapid response for emergency support and equipment swaps, and on-the-ground knowledge of the Japanese market, regulations and vendor ecosystem.
The Tokyo headquarters came first, then branches in Fukuoka, Osaka, Nagoya and Sapporo
mtc designed and implemented the IT and AV environment for the Tokyo headquarters, then supported expansion projects including new floor fit-outs and the standardisation of video conferencing. As the business grew, mtc opened new branch offices across Japan.
Site closures were run as decommissioning projects
When sites closed, mtc handled decommissioning, covering IT asset removal, data security and handback coordination.
Dozens of dark grocery sites were built under tight deadlines
For its food delivery business, mtc rapidly built and deployed dark grocery, or micro-fulfilment, centres. Each site received a network and IT setup, including cabling, wireless access points, internet circuit coordination and equipment installation. Scheduling stayed flexible as plans changed.
mtc designed and supported the data centre work hands-on
The scope covered racks, structured cabling, switch installation, patching and server moves. The team also supported edge computing and carried out infrastructure maintenance.
CEO visits and all-hands meetings ran without issue
mtc set up AV and IT for these high-profile events, making sure live video, connectivity and presentation systems worked.
