The brief

The client’s Japan operations move fast and change often in response to market needs. Its rides and delivery divisions each have their own requirements, and the site footprint shifts constantly through openings, closures and consolidations. The client needed a partner that could move quickly, scale up and deliver with precision, while keeping local teams, APAC stakeholders and US-based IT leadership aligned.

Challenges

  • Supporting multiple business units with different requirements at the same time
  • Frequent site strategy changes, including openings, closures and consolidations
  • Compressed timelines, often requiring installation and handover within days
  • Coordination across local teams, APAC stakeholders and US-based IT leadership

What we did

Headquarters and branch offices

mtc designed and implemented the full IT and AV environment for the client’s Tokyo headquarters, then supported expansion projects including new floor fit-outs and the standardisation of video conferencing. As the business grew, mtc opened new branch offices across Japan, including Fukuoka, Osaka, Nagoya and Sapporo. When sites closed, mtc handled decommissioning, covering IT asset removal, data security and handback coordination.

Dark grocery rollouts

For the client’s food delivery business, mtc rapidly built and deployed dozens of dark grocery, or micro-fulfilment, centres. Each site received a full network and IT setup, including cabling, wireless access points, internet circuit coordination and equipment installation. The work was delivered under tight deadlines, with flexible scheduling and ongoing adjustments as plans changed.

Data centre and infrastructure

mtc provided design and hands-on support for data centre racks, structured cabling, switch installation, patching and server moves. The team also supported edge computing and carried out infrastructure maintenance, helping keep the client’s technical environment consistent across its Japan operations.

Executive events and ongoing support

mtc set up AV and IT for high-profile events, including CEO visits and internal all-hands meetings, making sure live video, connectivity and presentation systems ran without issue. Across every project, mtc acted as an extension of the client’s internal team, providing bilingual project management to align global standards with local vendors and contractors, rapid response for emergency support and equipment swaps, and on-the-ground knowledge of the Japanese market, regulations and vendor ecosystem.

Design, procurement, installation and handover were delivered by mtc’s in-house bilingual team, with one point of contact throughout.
