Helping You Achieve New Milestones

About mtc

Your global standards, built inside a Japanese building

Most of what goes wrong in a Japan office project is the gap between what head office specified and what the building, the regulations and the local supply chain will allow.

mtc closes that gap. We are a licensed construction company in Tokyo that designs, installs and supports IT, audio-visual and physical security systems for international companies in Japan, with one bilingual team from the first site survey through to ongoing support.

A message from our Representative Director

Our goal at mtc is simple: we want our clients to have the best possible experience of delivering a project in Japan.

We know what makes that hard. The rules are unfamiliar, a global standard often assumes things a Japanese building will not permit, and decisions made at head office in one language have to be carried out on a site that works in another. Most of the difficulty in these projects lives in those gaps, and very little of it in the technology.

Our answer has been to work as part of the client team: one group of people who design, build and support the work, who hold the licence to carry it out, and who talk to the building in Japanese and to you in English.

We have delivered hundreds of projects this way, and almost every new one comes through a reputation earned on the last one or an introduction from someone we have worked with before. That is the only kind of growth we want, and it is why the experience of working with us matters to me as much as the result.

IT, audio-visual and security under one contract

Most integrators in Japan are strong in one of these and subcontract the rest. We design, install and support all three with our own engineers, which is why a single team can take responsibility for the whole floor.

Audio-visual

Crestron Elite Dealer and AVIXA Corporate Member

Meeting rooms, boardrooms, town hall spaces and LED walls, designed, programmed and commissioned by our own engineers.

IT infrastructure

Cisco Select Partner and BICSI Corporate Member

Networks, wireless, server rooms, power and cooling, planned against your global standards and the building you have signed for.

Physical security

LenelS2, Brivo and Honeywell platforms

Access control, cameras, intercoms and visitor management, integrated with your IT and signed off with the building.

How we are set up

Licensed, resident and directly accountable

In Japan the difference between a vendor and a contractor is a legal one.

  • Licensed. Telecommunications construction licence under the Construction Business Act of Japan, Kanagawa Governor Permit (General-6) No. 92487, held in our own name.
  • Directly contracted. We take work directly from clients, so the people who designed your system are the people who install it.
  • Resident team. Everyone working on your project is a resident of Japan with valid work status. Our core work is not subcontracted.
  • Bilingual by default. English with your global teams, Japanese with the building, the landlord, the carrier and the fire service. The same people do both.
  • Documented. Drawings, test results, configuration records and asset lists are handed over at completion.

Come and see us

Come and see the office

We would rather you met the engineers than read about them. Our office in Nihonbashi Hakozakicho is where equipment is staged, configured and tested before it goes to site, so there is usually something set up to look at and someone to explain it.

A visit takes about an hour. Bring the problem you are trying to solve, and we will tell you what is realistic in the building you are considering.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. mtc holds a telecommunications construction licence under the Construction Business Act of Japan, Kanagawa Governor Permit (General-6) No. 92487. Many technology vendors here do not hold one and rely on a third party licence for site work.

Our core design, installation and commissioning work is carried out by our own employees. Where a trade sits outside our licence, such as base building electrical works, we specify and coordinate it ourselves.

Yes. We regularly deliver to standards set by head office and adapt them to local conditions. Where a specified product is not sold or supported in Japan, we say so early and propose equivalents that meet the same standard.

Most of our clients are international organisations with offices in Japan, from a single floor to a full headquarters relocation. Our case studies cover projects from one meeting room to buildings of several thousand square metres.

Yes, and we would prefer it. Our office in Nihonbashi Hakozakicho is a working one, so you can see equipment set up and talk to the engineers who would run your project. Arrange it through the contact form or by telephone.
